A PhD Research Project

Welcome! I’m Amy - a PhD researcher and former teacher.
*** Interviews with Scottish participants are now COMPLETE - many thanks to all who took part. I will be in touch soon regarding the workshops.
*** I am STILL SEEKING participants in Wales - please do get in touch if you are interested in taking part!
Thank you for visiting my site and for your interest in this project.
My research explores the extent to which recent education policy in Scotland and Wales is helping or hindering secondary school teachers to do their jobs well. In other words, are the policies that have been developed in Scotland and Wales to improve ‘teacher quality’ actually supporting teachers to be good teachers?
Having spent time looking in detail at the education policy environments in both contexts, I am now looking for practising secondary school teachers in Scotland and Wales to give voice to the profession.
To do this, I am seeking teachers who are willing to offer their voice by participating in a 1-hour interview that will engage with questions such as what you think makes a good teacher, how you understand and experience teacher professionalism, and the support you feel you need to do your job well.
Following the interviews, I will be inviting participants to join a professional development workshop in which these issues will be discussed in more depth. This is entirely voluntary - there is no expectation that all interviewees will attend. If you would just like to offer your voice for the initial interview stage, that is equally appreciated.
If you are interested in offering your voice for this project, please read on for full details about the research as well as a link to sign-up.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any point on amy.aukland@ed.ac.uk.
I look forward to hearing from you!
